A Secluded Wilderness Retreat in Argentina, With Trout Fishing at the Door

October 6, 2026 · 5 min read

If what you want is wild country, very few other people and trout water a short walk from your room, Argentine Patagonia still has places that feel genuinely remote. Here are two, each with its own character.

Arroyo Pescado: a private estancia near Esquel

12,000 hectares of private land in Chubut, with a spring creek and the Tecka River running through it. Guests fish 23 kilometres of private water, ride across the estancia, walk to viewpoints and spend evenings at a new six-room lodge that sits directly in front of the creek. It is the more remote of the two, and the one for travellers who want the land almost to themselves.

Arroyo Pescado opens in February 2027 and welcomes guests from March 1, 2027. Discover Arroyo Pescado.

River House Patagonia: a house on the Chimehuín

An intimate six-room lodge directly on the Río Chimehuín, about twenty minutes from Chapelco Airport, near San Martín de los Andes. The river flows in front of the house, and the region's other great rivers and lakes are within reach for float and wade days. There is a spa with sauna and hot tub, horseback riding and trails into the hills, and a quieter rhythm that suits families and non-anglers too. Discover River House.

How to choose

  • For the most privacy and technical sight fishing: Arroyo Pescado
  • For a wide variety of rivers, easy access and wellness: River House Patagonia
  • For both: a combined program, with the logistics between lodges arranged by our team

Small by design

Both lodges have six private rooms and host a maximum of twelve guests, and both can be reserved for exclusive use by families or groups of friends. That scale, more than anything else, is what keeps the experience quiet.
