Northern Patagonia: the rivers around the Chimehuín
The Río Chimehuín is one of Argentina's most celebrated trout rivers, known for its wild brown trout and changing water. From River House Patagonia, which sits directly on the river, anglers also reach the Malleo, the Aluminé, the Collón Curá and the Limay, as well as lakes such as Tromen, Lácar, Lolog and Traful. Days can be spent float fishing or walking and wading, for brown, rainbow and brook trout.

Central Patagonia: spring creek sight fishing
Spring creeks are a different discipline: clear, stable water where trout are spotted before they are cast to. At Arroyo Pescado, near Esquel, guests fish the Arroyo Pescado spring creek and the Tecka River across 23 kilometres of private water. The fishing centres on dry flies and careful presentations, and most of it is done while wading. Float trips on the Futaleufú, Chubut and Carrileufu rivers complete the week.
When to go
The season runs from November to April. Conditions change through those months with snowmelt, water levels and insect hatches, which is why our guides plan each day around the water rather than a fixed itinerary. The 2026 snowpack is a good example of how winter shapes the following season.
What to bring
Four to six-weight single-handed rods cover most of the fishing, with floating lines for the spring creeks and wading water. Equipment can also be rented at the lodge. Once your program is confirmed, our team sends a detailed equipment list for the season and the waters you are likely to fish.
How we plan a week
A typical week combines the home water with float days on the region's larger rivers, adjusting to conditions and to what each angler wants from the trip: more technical water, more distance, or more time on a single river. See the fly fishing programs for sample itineraries.
